The Government’s New Nursery Recruitment Scheme
Transcript
INTRO
The government have just announced that will be giving new childcare workers a £1,000 bonus for joining the childcare field. In this video we will go over what this will look like.
With the government’s funding plans expected to increase enrolment in nurseries and childcare in general, with a huge boost in demand expected for April and September. This will naturally lead to more nurseries being needed and also more staff.
Over 100,000 two-year-olds have already signed up to the new funding for April.
The government have stated there are plans to help support nurseries and the childcare field and nurseries to manage this increased demand, starting with the £1000 bonus for nursery workers, which we will go over in this video.
But, first welcome to the channel.

Today we’re going over the new £1,000 government bonus for childcare workers which was introduced at the beginning of February.
This is a new trial recruitment offer to increase the number of staff nurseries and early years providers need to offer more childcare places to parents. New recruits will receive a £1,000 bonus when they start their first role in childcare.
So, who is eligible for £1,000 bonus.
The £1,000 bonus will be tax free and will be given to any new starters, starting a role in childcare. I.e. they’ve worked in childcare before and be new to the profession.
It will also be eligible for those that are returning to the childcare field. Providing they haven’t worked in childcare for at least 6 months.
Another caveat is that the candidate must work at least 70% of their time working directly with children. Which I am assuming is aimed at nursery cooks or cleaners who don’t necessarily work directly children and not aimed at nursery managers or deputy managers who are not room based.
As mentioned, this is just a trial. And currently only some local authorities have been invited to take part. These are the local authorities that the government have identified as being in the greatest need for recruitment.
This trial will run from April until December, and the current list of local authorities that have been invited to take part are:
- Birmingham
- Blackpool
- Halton
- Islington
- Knowsley
- Newcastle Upon Tyne
- North East Lincolnshire
- Salford
- Sandwell
- Wolverhampton
- Cumberland
- Darlington
- Doncaster
- Kingston upon Hull, City of
- Middlesbrough
- Northumberland
- Sefton
- Walsall
- Wirral
If you’re watching this at a later date, check the comments section as I will keep updating the list as and when more local authorities get added to the list.
Conclusion:
As well as the £1,000 bonus, the government are also attempting to help boost recruitment in the childcare field with a new marketing/ advertising campaign titled ‘Do Something Big’ .
