In one year I made over 100k and j want to tell you the secret to how I did it.

Now I never really say how much money can be made running a nursery, as I don’t really want to support and help people to open a nursery who are just in it to get rich because the most important thing for me is to help people create nurseries that really help their communities and help children to really flourish, not just those in it for a quick buck.

But if you do your thing well, you can make a very good income and have a truly passive form of income.

That is what I want to help you to do, and I will let you know my secrets as to how I managed to make 100k in my first year.

But let’s get straight into why we’re here. I’m going to let you know my secrets, which I haven’t shared before into how I made 100k in my first year running my first ever business which was my nursery.

Now, I have to let you know, I never came from wealth. Single parent household, both parents worked hard to send me to university and all that.

So, when I did make my first 100k I was very gassed. I took it out the bank and was taking pictures like this.

I felt like I had made it.

But I was still driven and it was a long and difficult journey to get to that point.

Firstly starting up my nursery I had many set backs. I planned and financed my nursery to open in within one year.

However, due to some mistakes I made which I will show you how to avoid, it took almost 2 years to start up.

I want to help you to avoid these mistakes and show you how you can open up your own nursery successfully so you too can start seeing unimaginable returns.

  1. Be unique

One thing that really helped propel my nursery, especially at the start when I had very little reputation and it was a big perceived risk for parents to trust me with their precious little ones, was by me and my setting being unique.

I done extensive research on my competitors in my area.

Whether that be the chain nurseries or that be the smaller independent ones.

I looked for what they were doing well, and tried to replicate that.

And looked for areas they weren’t doing so well and areas that I could show that my nursery would be better or different from there’s.

I came up with two key ways.

My nursery was in my home.  This could be seen as a positive or a negative depending on how I branded and showed myself to parents.

What I noticed in my area is that childcare providers in my area that were small, didn’t have the professionalism of the larger nurseries.

Plus the larger nurseries couldn’t provide the personal experience or touch that I could as I was smaller.

So, I played on this.

All my marketing was based on this.

That children would get the same education and experience as at the larger nursery, but in a safer more homely environment.

This is how I made my nursery appear unique.

This led me to get so many parent enquiries in my first year and I had sold out quite soon after opening.

I also had a practical uniqueness in the fact that we opened earlier than any other nursery in the area.

One parent used to travel over ten miles to use our nursery, due to these benefits.

That’s the advantage of being unique.

So, when you are creating your nursery, think of ways you can show potential parents you are unique and different to what is currently being offered.

  1. Invest in staff and build them to your vision

The second thing I did which led to my success, was I invested in staff and included them in my vision.

I wanted the nursery to be successful for not only myself but my staff too.

Your staff are your biggest asset.

You can’t run your nursery well without them.

If they’re happy and passionate this will spread to all areas of your business.

So, I let them know my goals from the start and hired people that believed and were excited about it.

I then tried to support them in all areas of their lives.

This led to dedicated staff who genuinely supported me and my nursery, willing to go the extra mile.

Your staff have to be a part of your vision as you can’t build a nursery without them.

  1. Sell your vision

Once you have your vision, you need to believe in it and sell it to everyone you meet.

When you show people your passion it will spread.

Parents could see I was passionate about children and creating a nursery that really benefitted their child.

They new my goals for the nursery and became some of my biggest supporters, even after their child had left the nursery.

I still get referrals from parents who joined my nursery at the very beginning and it’s such a humbling feeling.

This is also financially beneficially.

If parents are passionate about you and believe in your vision, they will sell the nursery for you, saving you loads on marketing.

You shouldn’t just be selling your vision to parents either.

You need to sell it to everyone you meet.

I spoke to everyone about my vision from family members to shop owners in my area.

And this just led to even more referrals.

I created a little community in my area where we all supported each other, which really helped, especially as being your own boss be isolating.

  1. Live humbly and save

One of my final tips is to live humble and save.

When I took that 100k out of the bank account I took the pictures with it and put it straight back into the bank and did not touch it for personal use.

I could have felt like I made it then and splashed out.

But instead I saved it and waited.

Due to this I was able to take advantage of a random opportunity to expand.

I was flying back from a holiday and got a notification that a new large building was available to use as a nursery in my area.

It wasn’t cheap and required a lot of work to the building.

But, as I had saved very well I was able to get the building with no stress, as I comfortably had enough money to afford it.

This is what I want to recommend to you.

If you really want to make the nursery a long-term success then don’t make changes to your lifestyle as soon as you start making good money.

Wait.

You never know how things can change.

And having that financial cushion allows you to be adaptable, not only to weather any storms, but also to take advantage of any opportunities that may arise.

  1. Market like hell

The final thing that contributed to my early success and something you should not be shy to do, is to market like hell.

Market in everyway possible and as much as possible.

When I started I tried so many different types of marketing and then reduced it as I grew to ones that worked for me.

Why is this important?

Because every business, every field and every area is different.

What works for my nursery might not work for yours and visa versa.

Plus, the nursery field is unique.

Each customer acquisition could net you a yearly income of over £12k per year.

That means for each new parent, your returns could be £12,000.

And unless you are extremely bad at marketing it will cost you nowhere near that much to advertise to get that parent.

Not many other fields will get that sort of return from a single customer.

So, invest in your marketing and don’t be afraid to try  and test out lots of different things methods.

Hand out flyers, do open days, create a website get on social media, try as much as possible, and as much as you can do reliably and consistently.

Then filter out the ones that aren’t really helping or seeing a return in investment.
