Ofsted needs to understand how your nursery will work in practice
During your registration visit, you need to demonstrate your understanding of the EYFS, safeguarding and how you intend to operate a safe and effective nursery. It is not enough to memorise a few model answers.
Understand what to expect
Gain a clearer understanding of the areas you may need to discuss during the registration visit.
Explain your plans clearly
Practise communicating your arrangements in your own words rather than relying on scripted answers.
Know what to improve
Leave knowing which areas appear strong and which parts of your preparation need further work.
Preparation built around your nursery
The exact content will be adapted to your application stage, proposed premises and areas of concern.
Your understanding of the statutory framework and how it will shape your provision.
Reporting concerns, safer practice and your responsibilities as a provider.
Recruitment, qualifications, ratios, deployment, supervision and training.
Room arrangements, security, risk assessment and safe operation.
How you intend to support children’s learning, development and individual needs.
Positive behaviour and support for children with additional needs.
Communication, information sharing and effective partnerships with families.
Routines, practical scenarios and how you will monitor and improve the nursery.
Three clear steps
Tell me about your nursery
You may be asked to share your application stage, floor plan, intended capacity, staffing plans and any concerns.
Complete your live session
We meet over Microsoft Teams and work through relevant questions, practical scenarios and your nursery arrangements.
Act on your feedback
You leave with clearer answers and a practical understanding of what should be prioritised before your visit.
Preparation connected to the realities of nursery registration
I regularly support people through the nursery registration process and have attended Ofsted registration visits with clients.
The session focuses on your proposed nursery, your premises and your plans rather than generic scripts that may not reflect your circumstances.

Opportunities to practise unfamiliar areas
Honest feedback on anything needing further work
Time to discuss your own questions and concerns
