FAQs

Below are some of the frequently asked questions about opening a nursery.  If you have any questions you can ask them in the form at the bottom of the page.

  • How long does it take to start a nursery?
    • This is dependant on the person and how much work you put in. When I first opened my nursery, it took me up 2 years from deciding to start one to actually having my opening day.  This is because I had to do everything myself.  With this course you can realistically open your nursery within 3 to 6 months (this is dependant on how long Ofsted take to come and visit you, because this takes up to six months it shouldn’t take any longer than this to start your nursery).
  • How long does the course take to complete?
    • You can go through all the lessons within one to two weeks. Though, as this course takes you through the steps of opening a nursery, it is not really complete until you accomplish that.  So, by fully implementing all the steps you should realistically complete the course on 3 to 6 months.
  • Can I complete the course in any order?
    • Yes, you can. I would actually recommend starting your application with Ofsted as soon as possible.  This is because it commits you to starting and prevents you procrastinating.  You won’t be able to complete the application, as you need a building, but as it takes up to 6 months for them to register you, I would get the application done as early as possible.
  • Is there any further support beyond this course?
    • Yes, there is a Facebook group which you can join now for free. This puts you with other like-minded people who want to start their own nursery.  They will help motivate you and be there to answer any questions.  Join by clicking here.
    • You will also be forums where you can ask any questions.
    • You can also email me any questions at nurserycourseuk@gmail.com
    • You also get over 35 downloadable documents to help you further, which supports you in all areas including hiring and managing staff, and enrolling parents
  • Do you need you need a childcare qualification to open a nursery?
    • No, as long as you hire suitable staff you can run a nursery with no qualifications.  If you have no childcare qualifications, I would recommend spending extra time looking for an experienced nursery manager
  • I don’t have £40,000 to start my own nursery, what can I do?
    • Neither did I!  I started with just enough money to buy toys, and negotiated a rent free period with my landlord, worked from morning until night and worked hard on marketing to get children in.  So it is possible to do open a nursery with a limited budget
    • I was also too nervous to try get a loan from a bank thought they would just reject me, however the full course will give you the confidence to approach a bank or other lender
    • The course also covers many inexpensive/ free ways to handle things like marketing and HMRC to help you save money
